Remove blank pages from a PDF automatically

Processed in your browser — never uploaded

Scanned documents often pick up stray blank pages from the scanner feed. This tool renders each page and automatically detects ones that are essentially blank (mostly white, no meaningful content), then removes them and gives you a cleaned-up PDF — entirely in your browser.

Where blank pages come from

Almost always duplex scanning. Feed a stack of single-sided documents through a scanner set to double-sided and you get a blank page after every real one, doubling the page count and the file size for no content. Section separators and the back of the last page in a batch produce the same result. It is one of the most common and most tedious problems with bulk-scanned documents.

How a page is judged blank

Each page is rendered and the proportion of non-white pixels is measured. A page counts as blank only when almost nothing is on it, which means a faint scanner line, a speck of dust, or slight paper discolouration will not cause a page with real content to be removed. The threshold deliberately errs toward keeping pages: a wrongly kept blank page is a minor annoyance, a wrongly deleted page of content is a real problem.

Check the result before relying on it

Detection is a heuristic, not a certainty. A page holding only a small stamp, a single line of faint handwriting, or a light watermark sits close to the threshold and could go either way. The tool lists exactly which page numbers it removed, so compare that list against your expectations before you submit the file anywhere that matters. If it removed something it should not have, your original is untouched on your device.

Frequently asked questions

How does it decide a page is blank?
Each page is rendered and checked for the proportion of non-white pixels; pages with almost no content (a faint scanner line or dust speck won't count) are flagged as blank.
Could this remove a page I actually want?
It's possible for a page with extremely sparse content (e.g. a single small watermark) to be flagged — always check the result before relying on it for something important.
What if every page looks blank?
The tool won't produce an empty PDF — it shows a clear message instead if every page is detected as blank.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No, detection and removal both happen locally in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Will this catch pages with only a header or footer?
Probably not. Pages with any consistent printed element usually carry enough non-white pixels to be treated as content.
