Comparing text, not appearance
This tool extracts the text of each page in both documents and compares them page by page. That catches the changes that usually matter — edited clauses, changed figures, added or removed paragraphs. It does not compare visual appearance, so a document that was re-exported with different fonts, spacing, or images but identical wording will be reported as the same. Conversely, a page whose text moved between pages will show as different on both.
Reading the result
Each page is marked same, different, or missing from one of the files. Where page counts differ, the extra pages in the longer document are flagged as missing from the shorter one, which makes it easy to see whether content was added at the end or inserted in the middle — an insertion causes every subsequent page to report as different, because content has shifted along.
It will not work on scans
Because the comparison relies on extractable text, two scanned documents will both yield nothing and be reported as identical regardless of their actual content. That is a false result rather than a useful one, so check first that your documents have selectable text. For scanned files, a visual page-by-page comparison or OCR would be needed instead.
