The NEET application has a requirement that catches out almost every first-time candidate: alongside the usual passport photograph, NTA asks for a postcard-size photograph — roughly 4 by 6 inches — against a white background. Candidates prepare a passport photo, upload it to both fields, and have the application rejected. Knowing about the second photo before you visit the studio saves a trip, because the two are shot differently.
Two photographs, not one
The passport photograph is the familiar head-and-shoulders shot. The postcard photograph is larger and shows more of you, and NTA has generally required the candidate's name and the date of the photograph to appear on it. Both must be recent and taken against a plain white background. Ask the studio for both formats in the same sitting and have them supplied digitally as well as printed — you will need the digital files for the application and the prints on exam day and at counselling. Keep the originals at full resolution; the compressed copies you upload are not a substitute later.
Documents at the counselling stage
The application itself asks for photographs, a signature and in some categories a thumb impression. The heavier document load comes later, at counselling, where you upload class 10 and 12 marksheets, category and domicile certificates and identity proof. That is where file sizes become a real problem, because candidates scan multi-page certificates at maximum resolution and produce files many times the limit. Scan each certificate separately at 200 DPI in greyscale, crop to the page edge, and upload only the pages actually requested.

- Most often for content rather than size: a background that is not plain white, a photograph older than permitted, a missing name or date, or a face that occupies too little of the frame. Compression fixes none of those.
- How do I compress counselling certificates?
- Rescan at 200 DPI in greyscale rather than 300 DPI colour, and scan each certificate as its own file. That usually takes a multi-megabyte bundle to a few hundred kilobytes per document.
- Is it safe to compress my marksheets here?
- Yes. Everything runs inside your browser and nothing is uploaded, so your marksheets and certificates never reach any server.
